Steep Descents

At the beginning of my skiing in the backcountry, i skied all the steep descents from Heini Holzer. My first steep descents to repeat, was the Pallavicini couloir at Grossglockner, the highest peak of Austria. followed by Cima Tosa, Minigerode & Schückrinne – Ortler, Matterhorn Ostwand, Canale Innerkofler – Monte Cristallo….

First Decents

By the time of skiing most of the classic steep descents in the eastern Alps, I’ll get an eye and feeling for rideable lines. So back then, I’ll discover unskied peaks around my home spot and tried out the adventure of first descent. By now, my list of first descents at my home mountains and the Alpes is long and I added more first descents from all other countries.

Alaska

In 2014 i have been send to on a glacier camping trip with the powderwhore crew.
A 17 days expedition in the Alaskas last frontier, it took a 8 hour flight with a little propeller plane far away from civilization. It was a totally new experience for me. Since that i fell in love with this kind of ski mountaineering and it opened my eyes for that style of skiing in the alps.

Japan

The land of chest deep powder and the most tasty sushi. 2017 two friends and I flew to Hokkaido to explore the beauty of the country. We got in touch with Japans super light snow and enjoyed cold beers at Onsens. My favorite was to leave the crowded ski areas and hike into such a beautiful quiet landscape.

Mount Ushba – which means the horrible mountain. I have heard a lot of stories about this mystic peak and its perfect ski touring options around the Mestia area in Georgia. So, with three good friends i decided to give it a try. After 10 days at the Mount Ushba I flew back home with a first descent and some nice ski touring. The ski descent from mount Ushba was one of my hardest and steepest lines i ever skied.
